The non-partisan election of city officials shall be conducted in all respects as provided by the laws of Kansas governing the holding of city elections.

At all city elections the polls shall be open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m., unless different hours are set and publicly announced by the county election officer.

A general election of city officials will take place on the Tuesday succeeding the first Monday in November of 2017. The succeeding elections will be held every two years for all such Governing Body positions whose terms are expiring. Each ward shall elect one (1) Council Member while the Mayor shall be elected at large. All Governing Body members shall have four (4) year terms.

The terms of officers elected shall commence on the second Monday in January following certification of the election, and the elected officers shall qualify by taking the oath or affirmation of office to be filed with the city clerk.

In accordance with K.S.A. 25-205, and amendments thereto, any person may become a candidate for city office elected at large by having had filed with the county election office either of the following:
(a) a declaration of candidacy, accompanied by any fee required by law; or
(b) a nomination petition. The nomination petition must be signed by at least five percent (5%) of the qualified electors in the corresponding ward for a Council Seat, or of all qualified electors for the Mayorship of the city.
