A CHARTER ORDINANCE AMENDING CHARTER ORDINANCE 1984-01, CHAPTER 1, ARTICLE 3, SECTION 301 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF GIRARD, KANSAS BY AMENDING SECTION 301 PERTAINING TO APPOINTMENTS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF GIRARD, KANSAS: AMENDING SECTIONS 301.
Section 1. Appointment.
The Mayor shall appoint, by and with the consent of the Council, city officers in the positions of City Administrator, Judge of the Municipal Court, City Attorney, Chief of Police, City Clerk, City Treasurer, and Fire Chief. Officers shall be appointed in November of even-numbered years to take office on January first (1st) of the following year. Appointments thereafter shall occur every two (2) years or the officers may be appointed for a longer period under the terms of an agreement approved by Council. They shall serve until they are reappointed or their successors are appointed and qualified. All other employees of the City of Girard shall be hired and terminated by a majority vote of the Governing Body. The Governing Body shall by ordinance specify the duties and compensation of the office holders, and by ordinance may abolish an office created by the Governing Body whenever deemed expedient. The Governing Body may retain a licensed Professional Engineer to act in the capacity of City Engineer for specifically defined duties and provide for reasonable compensation for the services rendered.
