A CHARTER ORDINANCE EXEMPTING THE CITY OF GIRARD, KANSAS, FROM THE PROVISIONS OF K.S.A. 14-1502, INSOFAR AS THEY RELATE TO THE RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE OFFICE OF CITY ATIORNEY, AND PROVIDING SUBSTITUTE AND ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS ON THE SAME SUBJECT, RELATING TO THE RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT OF THE OFFICE OF CITY ATIORNEY.

Section 1. The City of Girard, Kansas, by the power vested in it by Article 12, Section 5, of the constitution of the State of Kansas, hereby elects to exempt itself from and make inapplicable to it the provisions of K.S.A. 14-1502 insofar as they relate to the residency requirements for the office of city attorney and provide substitute and additional provisions as hereinafter set forth in this ordinance. Such referenced provisions are either enactments or a part thereof which are applicable to this city but are applicable uniformly to all cities of the second class.

Section 2. The city may appoint a non-resident as city attorney but the city attorney shall be a qualified elector of the county in which the city is located.
